✨ Highlights
North Cottage is a rare, self-contained private studio in one of Tokyo’s most sought-after central neighborhoods, just moments from Yoyogi Park and the gardens of Meiji Shrine 🌳⛩️. Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac street, it offers a calm, local living experience while being exceptionally well connected to the rest of the city.
Studios like this are uncommon so close to Shinjuku and Shibuya. While compact (as expected in central Tokyo), the space is thoughtfully designed and has been carefully maintained over many years of hosting. It’s a well-loved home that continues to offer comfort, character, and excellent value for couples or solo travellers.
🏠 The Space
North Cottage is a fully private, self-contained studio attached to a family home, with its own separate entrance. The studio combines sleeping, living, and dining into one comfortable open space, offering an authentic Tokyo stay rather than a standard hotel room.
This home is best suited for 1–2 guests, providing a cozy and efficient layout that’s ideal for short city breaks or longer stays.
Please note: the studio is located next to the train line. While this makes getting around extremely convenient, some noise is audible when express trains pass. The studio is fitted with double glazing and a sound blanket, and many guests mention this balance positively in their reviews.
🛏 Sleeping Arrangements
The studio includes:
All bedding is made prior to arrival, with fresh linens and towels provided.
A portable baby cot / crib is available on request at no extra charge 👶
🍳 Kitchen & Amenities
The kitchenette is equipped with everything needed for simple meals and daily living:
Additional amenities include:
Due to the compact layout, luggage space is best suited for standard suitcases. For large luggage or sports gear, we recommend Japan’s reliable and affordable luggage delivery services.
👫 Ideal for Couples
North Cottage is especially popular with couples and solo travellers who want to stay somewhere quiet, well located, and genuinely local. Step outside and you’ll find bakeries, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, and 24-hour convenience stores just minutes away 🥐☕🛒
If North Cottage isn’t available for your dates, feel free to ask — we manage other thoughtfully designed homes nearby.

North Cottage is a comfortable accommodation in a great location. The bed is quite comfortable. We had adequate space and all the amenities we needed. There were thoughtful amenities like IC cards, which are indispensable for getting around in Japan. Ashley and Tracey are excellent hosts. The communication with them was prompt and clear leading up to our arrival. Although we are familiar with the neighborhood, Ashley provided some suggestions which were greatly appreciated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would choose the Cottage again when we return to Tokyo.
Excellent location. quiet and safe neighborhood. Helpful and friendly host. ❤️
So happy that you enjoyed your stay - you are an outstanding guest and we hope to see you again on your next visit.
This place was really cozy and quiet, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. There’s a minimarket and plenty of restaurants just a short walk away, which made grabbing snacks or meals super convenient. Public transportation is a breeze too — both buses and trains are easy to catch nearby, so getting around the city was hassle-free. The host was awesome, very friendly and always respond whenever we had questions. Overall, it was a great stay and I’d definitely recommend this spot if you’re planning a trip to Tokyo!
We are thrilled to know you enjoyed your stay with us. You were a joy to host and we are grateful you chose to stay with us. Please come back anytime.
Ash and Tracey were great to communicate with before arriving and when I arrived. The place is in a super location. There are lots of food choices very close by. The only thing to be aware of is the proximity to the train line and the noise of passing trains. Although it definitely gives you a sense of place.
My sister and I stayed in Japan for 1 month and had stayed in various Airbnbs and hotels, and Ash and Tracey's place was by far the best equipped home. We were given everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The bedding was also comfortable and extremely soft. Ash was very responsive, and they went out of their way to check up on us throughout the stay. The location is close to train tracks but with the sound insulation provided, we didn't have any problems with the noise, plus the experience felt more local that way. The surrounding areas is also really cute and lovely. The walk through Yoyogi Park in the morning and at night was our favourite part of the day. Highly recommend doing a stay with Ash and Tracey. Thank you both!
Ash and Tracey were so kind and supportive in introducing us to this darling cottage! Ash was very patient and understanding when we had some travel hiccups that delayed our arrival. He took time to give fantastic recommendations on local eateries and travel tips, and was quick to respond to us if we had questions or needed help. We had everything we needed, a good sized room with full amenities, and best of all, AMAZING LOCATION. We loved how peaceful and cute Sangubashi neighborhood is, and you are only 2 train stops/a short 15 minute walk from all the high energy places in Shinjuku! We would stay here again in a heartbeat! Miss it so much already. Thanks for making our Tokyo adventure so delightful and unforgettable, Ash And Tracey! p.s. right next to the train track, but in our opinion, still extremely quiet and the sound of the train made for beautiful atmosphere...never disturbed our sleep! was very muted despite its close proximity.
Great spot to stay for easy access to most neighborhoods in Tokyo. Beautiful walk through Yoyogi park to get to the heart of Shibuya; easy to get to Shinjuku by train and almost anywhere by train. I’m a heavy sleeper so the train didn’t bother me and the extras they have to minimize light and noise work great. Bed was super comfortable with the mattress pad (which was a nice change from my spot before this one where the bed was very springy and tough). Amazing water pressure. Great spot for 1-2 ppl. Would definitely stay here again! Only thing to keep in mind is there is no self check-in but it was delightful to meet the hosts and get a rundown of the neighborhood!
Good place to kick back & relax after a busy day of exploring Shibuya, Shinjuku and Yoyogipark. There are lots of restaurants nearby with a variety of choice (Indian, Japanese, Italian, …). Within one minute walking distance you will find multiple well-stocked supermarkets if you’re into cooking yourself. Close to the Sangubashi train station, you’re out and about in no time. We stayed 3 nights in the apartment with our 10 month old baby and we got everything we needed during our stay. Host is very responsive so you’re in good hands. The nearby train is something to consider if you’re a light sleeper but did not affect us at all. Without the train (it stops for 5 or 6 hours at night) it’s a very quiet neighbourhood.
I really enjoyed my stay here - a little home away from home in a lovely leafy green residential area of Tokyo. Those booking this place will be aware that it is close to a train line and a studio flat attached to the owner's house so shouldn't be suprised by the noise from both the trains and the neighbours, but I didn't find that it bothered me too much and I hope I wasn't too much of a noisy guest! The flat is small but has everything that you need. I can't say that there was anything in particular that I didn't like after reading the description of the place thorougly. Thank you so much for a lovely stay and I hope to be back again before too long! (^^)/
I chose this location due to its proximity to the Tokyo Marathon starting line and it was PERFECT for that and more! This space was the perfect size for one person, and the kitchen and laundry were clutch! Not only was this close to the marathon start line but also Yoyogi park (perfect for running) and the train line. ALso being a solo English speaking traveler it was so great to have hosts who spoke fluent English and who were also so kind and responsive! I felt cared for my entire stay and they were more than willing to help with any questions I had as well. When I return to Tokyo you better bet I'm staying here!
