** Neighbourhood **
We love living in this area and our own home is a few minutes away. We will personally meet and greet you and show you through the house and how to use everything.
The house is in a quiet and safe street but only a few minutes walk from Meidaimae station which is just 2 express stations away from all the fun and funky shops and restaurants in Shinjuku in one direction and 2 express stops in the other direction to the cool and hip Shibuya crossing. From either of these stations you can easily get to anywhere around Tokyo.
Or if you are on your way to Shibuya, take a detour at the funky and retro Shimokitazawa with all of the recycled clothes shops and live houses.
The streets are fairly typical of suburban Tokyo and some urban hiking reveals interesting architecture as well as many green spaces.
On days when you want to stick close to home, the neighbourhood bustles with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and other amenities. There is a grocery store nearby perfect for stocking breakfast and for snacks, we suggest any of the nearby convenience stores which are open 24 hours.
We've drawn up a neighborhood map to help you find what you need.
** Transport **
The closest station is Meidaimae and this is 5 minutes walk from the house. This is on two major train lines - Keio Line and Inokashira Line.
It would be hard to get a better location for sightseeing. Enjoy a 10 minute train ride to the quiet gardens of Shinjuku Gyoen or the exciting shops around Shinjuku 3-chome. The iconic Shibuya crossing is only a few stops on the Inokashira line.
From Meidaimae you can easily access all other parts of Tokyo.

The short answer is sadly no. Many of the larger train stations have lockers big enough for a full size suitcase. Shinjuku Station has plenty of large coin lockers. River House was beyond our expectations. It easily accommodated our large family, and provided a welcome respite from the frenetic pace of downtown Tokyo. While located in a quiet neighborhood, it's a short walk to either one of two train stations with quick access to Shinjuku or Shibuya, making day (or night) time excursions a breeze. Ash and Tracey were prompt, diligent, and always helpful. They really set my mind at ease about staying in the largest city in the world. I will surely be back in Tokyo some day, and when I do, Tokyo Family Stays is at the top of our list for how we will do it.
Our stay at Riverhouse with Tokyo Family Stays was pleasant and hassle-free. The location is ideal, close to the train station, making it convenient for exploring Tokyo. Mermaid coffee, located nearby, was a must-visit for our morning coffee fix. The quiet surroundings provided a peaceful retreat, and the accommodation was clean and well-maintained, perfect for our family of four. The air conditioning was a relief during the hot days. Ash's assistance was appreciated, adding a personal touch to our experience. We look forward to booking with Tokyo Family Stays for our future trips.
We (2 Couples) enjoyed the River House for the entire month of April. It was wonderful. We had enough private space to relax, and a large enough common space, dining area to comfortably accommodate all of us. Having 2 toilets was a bonus with 4+ people. There was a nice office space for working. The house is very short walk to Meidaimae station. You can also walk to Sasazuka station, which is bigger, and has lots of restaurants and shops. Shinjuku station is a less than 10 minute train ride. The hosts were very helpful and immediately took care of the 1 issue that did arise. This was our second Japan stay using Tokyo Family stays, I highly recommend them.
With 10 of us (one young child) it was always going to be a challenge to find somewhere to stay in Tokyo - until we heard about Tokyo Family Stays! The River House (Ogawa) was a 5 -10 minute walk from Meidaimae station and only two stations from the Japanese resident family members we were visiting. Christmas lunch with all 15 of us worked well - we were even able to heat up some roasts in the oven!
Great place to stay in Tokyo. The area is very quiet and residential, but still close to the bright lights of Tokyo city. The house is large and spacious for Japan. The communial area is lovely and well designed. We really enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend it to anyone.
We had a great stay in this house which had enough room for us and our kids. The floor layout with the extra loft space was lovely. We liked how close it was to the station and shopping area and such easy access to Shinjuku or Shibuya. Also lots of good restaurants inn the Meidaimae area!! Also having Henagi Park an easy 15 minute stroll away was an added bonus.
Great value house 5-10 minute walk to Meidaimae train station, which is two stops (express train) to either Shibuya or Shinjuku station. The hosts were very informative and accommodating, from the welcome pack, to the free pocket WIFI (very useful) and all the instructions/signs posted throughout the house to how to use the appliances. The house had everything you need and even had utensils catered for kids! Thank you for the tips of where to get good coffee at Shimokitaza, one stop from Meidaimae - we loved exploring the area!
To be honest, best listing I have stayed in so far! The place had all the amenities you required and the interior was so beautiful. Apartment is very spacious and consists of 3 floors with a loft area. Great place for a family with kids or a group of friends. Convenient stores, mini marts and food places are all located around the station which makes it easy to get any snacks or drinks. Apartment is near to the train station, about 10 minute walk. Kitchen is well equipped with all essential cooking equipments and basic condiments, there is also a coffee machine for people who likes to have their own brewed coffee in the morning. Everything in the apartment has clear instructions on how to operate. Host is very responsive from confirmation of the apartment all the way till checking out. Super Cool listing which i would recommend ANYONE. I would definitely go back again if I go back to Tokyo!
